Description
This is a 16mm Original print of the George Reeves, Ralph Byrd adventure comedy, Thunder in the Pines (1948) . I would describe it as a good condition Kodak Original with minor wear. No vinegar odor. It is on a 2000' reel and has a running time of approximately 60 minutes.Thunder in the Pines (1948) Directed by Robert Gordon. Cast: George Reeves, Ralph Byrd, Greg McClure, Michael Whalen, Denise Darcel, Marion Martin, Lyle Talbot, Vince Barnett, Roscoe Ates, Tom Kennedy, Frank Hagney, Milicent Patrick, Joey Ray, Arno Tanney and Jack Tornek.
Thunder In The Pines finds George Reeves and Ralph Byrd as a pair of Northwoods Lumberjacks who work hard and play harder. Both are not the brightest of men though they do know their trade. A French floozy breezes through town played by Denise Darcel and pretty soon both are in heat over her and the rivalry becomes less friendly. Logging baron and local saloon owner Lyle Talbot is prepared to take full advantage.
The film boasts of a highly talented cast of players, many having great screen recognizability, but lacking a corresponding name familiarity. To begin with we have Superman and Dick Tracy in a fist fight. That is, George Reeves and Ralph Byrd co-star as two buddies who seem to constantly find themselves rivals in work and at play, competing for the affections of the lovely Ladies.
Lyle Talbot, is cast in sort of a comic villain. Roscoe Ates, Greg McClure, Denise Darcel, Marion Martin, Vince Barnett, Tom Kennedy and Milicent Patrick makeup most of the remaining cast.
The spirit of the film and the characterizations of Ralph Byrd and George Reeves put one in mind of screen rivalries of some more notable players, such as John Wayne and Randolph Scott or Clark Gable and Spencer Tracy. This film does a great job of being entertaining. It has definite comical overtones and the director knew how to wrap it up and leave 'em laughing.
