    Description

This auction is for a rare 16MM film containing a black & white kinescope of the legendary Johnny Carson’s first NBC-TV prime time special, aired on September 7, 1968. The special was called “JOHNNY CARSON DISCOVERS CYPRESS GARDENS”, because rather than keeping himself in his traditional studio-bound confines, this highly publicized special was filmed on location at Florida’s legendary Cypress Gardens. Johnny spent most of this special either on the beach or in the water, and he daringly joins a professional water skier for some water skiing and later some kite flying. Johnny’s guests are Vikki Carr and the musical group Every Mother’s Son.
The B&W picture is good (see actual screen shots), the sound is strong, the film runs smoothly, and there is no vinegar smell. While there are no commercials, there is one public service announcement about not drinking and driving. The film is complete with beginning titles and end credits. Total running time is approximately 50 minutes.
Thanks for looking at this great piece of television history.
