    Description
HUGE 16mm Movie Reel: W/ FOUR SHORTS:  AUDIE MURPHY LAUREL & HARDY, BILLY FRANEY.
The Audie Murphy SOUND short, 'The Big Gambler - consists of excerpts taken from his 1954 movie, "Drums Across the River', and appears at the end of this 14" reel. The other three shorts are CRAZY 1920's silent comedies.
    In a metal film cannister.
Black hijincks, smoking monkey, pretty girls on a diving board, horse race, etc., and the usual foolishness of Laurel and Hardy in 'The Paper Hanger's Helper'.
I feel the most interesting short here is Billy Franey's 1920, 'The Water Plug', which was actually filmed out on the streets of 1920 Los Angeles (car license tag states '1920').  Billy Franey entered films in 1914 and worked in hundreds of comedy shorts until his death in 1940. Franey had his own starring series for Reelcraft from 1920-22, and The Water Plug was the third in that series. Some intertitles are reminders that the film was released at the beginning of Prohibition.
