Description
NO POSTAGE STAMPS!"24K gold-plated metal replicas"
based on China PRC #1389-1398 (1978)
China Post No. T.28
I am selling this item for its artistic merit and because of its resemblance to postage stamps. I received this item as a gift and I have no reason to doubt its authenticity; still, I am not a metallurgist, and therefore I can't vouch for the composition of the "gold plating."
According to the text, these galloping horses were originally painted by Xu Bei-hong. The paintings served as the models for the 1978 stamp series. The "gold-plated replicas" were prepared at some later date (1996?). If you read Chinese, I would be grateful for corrections to this description!
According to the text, the gold has been chemically plated to copper (i.e., copper is the "base metal").
The condition of these replicas can best be seen in images 2 and 8. The replicas were apparently mounted by hand and protected with a plastic covering. The 20-fen metal stamp has a noticeable crease on the left and some crinkling (?) in the lower-left corner. There are very slight creases on a few of the other values.
