    Description

Evocative film from a long-gone era...it's the 16mm black and white sound approx. 11 minute Young America release WHAT IS SOUND? Our film has a sort of Twilight Zone opening as we look at a row of suburban houses, then, loud banging NOISES. The Narrator wonders if it's fireworks--sounded like gunfire to yours truly. Well, we were both wrong. Turns out it's just Tom who  is walking to school and decides to stop and beat the hell out of a can and a box. Close call. Well, in the classroom there's no sign of the fun loving Tom, but there are instead a robotic crowd of kids silently watching a boy and girl perform experiments demonstrating the principles of sound. They use a yardstick, rubber bands, metal clicker under water, test tubes as pitch pipes, and battery and electric bell. Good, solid fun.
